Affiliates & JV Partners...
Two terms that may confuse you are affiliates
& JV Partners. Affiliates are people who join your
affiliate program and (hopefully) push your products
to their lists, on their sites, etc. I say hopefully because
empirical data shows only about ten percent of those
who join your program will actually do anything, and
2-5% will provide the bulk of your affiliate results.
As a result, you need to attract 100's of affiliates into
your program to see any real results. With 500 affiliates,
you can expect about 30-50 of them to actually push
your products, and 10 or 12 of them will make it all
worthwhile to you. Right now, SFI probably has the
biggest affiliate program, with just over 6 MILLION
people in their affil program. Do they see great returns?
Of course they do - even with millions of inactive
affiliates, they still have more that ARE active than
most affiliate plans attract at all.
On the other hand, JV partners are a whole different
kettle of fish, as they say. Yes, they still get a portion
of the returns they generate - but it's a higher percentage,
typically 50 - 75%. Some plans call for their JV partners
to push the same products as the affiliates, on an
ongoing basis.
The most powerful use of your JV partners is for events -
whether it be a giveaway like the one starting tomorrow
or the launch of a new site or product. Because of the
massive size of their combined lists, your JV partners
can make an amazing difference in your results. The biggest
one so far was the launch of John Reese's Traffic Secrets,
an event that brought in a million bucks in just one day!
Sure, John would have had to distribute over half of that
to his launch partners, but do you think he cares? So he
only made about $250k - $350k that day - still a
success in anybody's book! Look out your window...
It takes most of the people you see 5 - 7 years to make
that much - but John's JV made him that much that day!
So what makes someone a good JV partner? Usually, in
exchange for the higher return, they bring a bigger name,
bigger lists and higher conversion rates to the table. For
example, while almost all of our JV partners have lists
over 5,000 and usually over 10,000, we sometimes include
people with lists very targetted to the niche we're after,
even though they have smaller lists. They don't reach as
many people, but the higher conversion rate means
they move just as many units.
Of course, with JV's or affiliates, you need a good
program to keep track of it all - think of how hard it
is for you just trying to keep everything straight
in your own biz! Multiply that by 20 JV partners
or 200 affils & you're sunk if you try to do it manually...
Fortunately, a program to handle both is one of
the two resources at SevenBucks.com this week,
so it needn't set you back an arm and a leg to
solve your problem...
